The History of the First Metal Detector
Share
📜 Did you know? 📜
🔍 The history of the first metal detector dates back to the end of the 19th century! That's not so recent, is it? The invention of the very first metal detector is attributed to the American inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Yes, the same one who invented the telephone! 📞
It was 1881 when US President James Garfield was seriously injured by a bullet during an assassination attempt. Bell, wanting to locate the bullet lodged in the president's body without resorting to risky surgery, developed a device based on electromagnetic induction. Unfortunately, due to interference from the metal springs in the president's bed, the invention did not work as expected. 😮

Although this first metal detector failed to save President Garfield, it marked the beginning of a technology that would revolutionize many fields, from archaeology to security and, of course, treasure hunting! 🏺✨
And today, thanks to technological advances, our detectors are much more precise and efficient. One more reason to be grateful to live in our time, right?
