Did you know? 💡The Byzantine Solidus

The Byzantine Solidus is one of the most enduring and influential currencies in history. Introduced by Emperor Constantine I in 312 AD , it quickly became the standard gold coinage of the Byzantine Empire, in use for over 700 years ! 🏛️💰

The Solidus was renowned for its purity, containing nearly 4.5 grams of fine gold , which gave it remarkable stability at a time when inflation was ruining other currencies. The coin became a truly international currency, used not only in the Byzantine Empire, but also in trade throughout Europe, Asia, and the Islamic world.
