🕰️ Legendary Treasures: The Treasure of Vix – A Celtic Tomb Filled with Precious Treasures 🏺✨

In 1953, in the village of Vix in Burgundy, archaeologists unearthed one of the most fascinating archaeological discoveries of the Iron Age: the tomb of the Lady of Vix. This Celtic tomb, dating from the 5th century BC, contained an impressive collection of precious objects that testify to the wealth and refinement of the Celtic elites of the time.

At the centre of this treasure is the famous Vix Vase , a huge bronze krater weighing over 200 kg, which remains to this day the largest ancient vase ever discovered. This exceptional piece, decorated with detailed motifs, was probably used for ceremonies. Alongside this vase, very fine jewellery, gold ornaments and other bronze objects were also found.

This discovery has allowed us to better understand the exchanges between the Celts and the great Mediterranean civilizations, as well as the role of women in Celtic society. Today, the Vix treasure is kept at the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais, where it continues to fascinate history and archaeology enthusiasts.
